Science and practice: the engine of progress

Niels Garwig holds a Master's degree Commercial Sciences (specialization in Taxation) from KU Leuven, a Master's degree in Accountancy and Audit from KU Leuven, and obtained his educational Master's degree in Economics from UGent. Additionally, Niels has professional experience at KPMG and KBC Corporate Banking, and worked as a lecturer in accounting at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences. In collaboration with Ghent University, Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, SBB Accountants & Advisors, Van Havermaet, and Vandelanotte, and co-financed by the Vlaio Baekeland mandate, Niels initiated his doctoral research. The central theme of the research is to enhance ‘mutual understanding’ in advisory relationships between accountants and their client-entrepreneurs. The doctoral research aims to provide accountants with practical insights, enabling them to offer advice that is not only more understandable but also more usable for the entrepreneur.
